History

TexSkill Limited commenced operation as a not-for-profit Registered Training Organisation in 1991.

TexSkill's raison d'être was to provide flexible and customised training in the workplace for the spinning industry of Victoria. A Board of Directors, comprising Chief Executives and other executive staff from the spinning industry, was elected to oversee the operations of the company.

In the early years of its operation TexSkill broadened its operations to service the wider TCF industry in Victoria - specialising always in workplace training at the Vocational Education and Training levels.

In 1998 the Commonwealth Government funded a business development initiative to expand TexSkill's operations to ensure that the same level of flexible, worksite training was available nationally. Over a two year period TexSkill's business expanded to provide an office, on-site staff and specialist textiles delivery in each state of Australia.

TexSkill's Major Achievements include:

  • APEC-HURDIT Award in 1995 an Exemplary Model for, Training in Industrial Technology (awarded in Toronto, Canada) for its pioneering work in developing and conducting customised factory-based operator training programs.
  • OTFE Innovative Training Product Award finalist in 1995 for TexSkill's "Flexible Delivery (Factory-Based) Accredited Operator Training Packages" program.
  • Chosen by OTFE to 'best-practice' benchmark with Texilia, the major textile training research institute in Italy, in 1996. This project supplied valuable input into the formation of the International Fibre Centre with which TexSkill is associated.
  • Contracted by the Melbourne Institute of Textiles in 1997 to manage and conduct all of M.I.Text's textile courses, both on and off-campus.
  • Curriculum development of Certificates I, II and III in Textile Production, plus Certificate IV and Diploma in Textiles (Manufacturing Technology).
